Types of Shower Glass

If your bathroom remodel includes a walk-in shower, there’s going to be a conversation regarding shower glass. It may seem like a trivial decision, but the shower glass that you choose will have a significant impact on the final product. Below you’ll find our shower glass cheat sheet, which is perfect to help you get a general understanding of your options!

Types of Doors

Pivot Shower Doors

Pivot shower doors are typically a good fit for standalone showers. These doors are attached at one side of the stall, and they offer wide openings for showers that can’t accommodate a sliding shower door. A disadvantage of this type of door is that they sometimes drip water on the floor outside the shower, but overall, they are a great choice for convenience and an attractive appearance.

Swinging Shower Doors

Swinging shower doors are our most popular door style! Swinging shower doors are very similar to pivot shower doors, but they are hinged and only swing in one direction. The main thing you need to look for with a swinging shower door is that you have enough space for it to open properly.

Sliding Shower Doors

Sliding shower doors are convenient since they do not require any clearance outside the shower to open and close. The downside of sliding shower doors is that you do need a wide opening in order to allow them to function properly.

Types of Shower Glass

Clear Shower Glass

Clear shower glass is transparent, but it does have a slightly greenish tint. Since clear glass doesn’t have a specific texture, it works well with all design styles and gives your bathroom a timeless appearance.

Low-Iron Shower Glass

Low-iron shower glass is what we use in nearly all of our bathroom remodels! It has all of the advantages of clear shower glass, but thanks to its manufacturing process, it has the additional advantage of not having any greenish tint to it. This extra clarity really allows the tile work in your shower to stand out!

Frosted Shower Glass

Frosted shower glass offers improved privacy. It allows some light to transmit through the glass and is a good fit for you if you prefer a translucent appearance.

Opaque Shower Glass

Opaque shower glass offers even further improved privacy in comparison to frosted shower glass. Opaque shower glass is a good fit for your bathroom if you prefer complete privacy, want your shower to have a cozier ambiance, or if you are living in a multi-family home.

Framed or Frameless?

Framed

Framed shower glass has been around for as long as shower glass has been used. It is a great fit for more traditional bathroom designs. The frame itself can play an important part in your bathroom design. By being able to choose the finish of the frame, framed shower glass offers you the opportunity to match different styles of glass or other finishes around the bathroom.

Types of Shower Glass

Frameless

Frameless shower glass fits best with a modern bathroom remodel. Ditching the frame allows for a perfect view through your shower. Frameless shower glass is the ideal choice to make your bathroom look and feel brighter and more spacious.

Our Top Combo

The majority of our clients end up going with a Low-Iron, Frameless Shower Glass for their bathroom remodel. It’s a low-maintenance combo that looks amazing, but really allows the rest of the bathroom to shine!
